Growth through Rehabilitation
A biomedical model of dementia, which assumes
inevitable decline and an inability for new learning
does not give credit to the incredible capacity for the
human brain to adapt, change and develop new ways
of learning.
It has become increasingly evident that people living
with dementia have a large capacity to continue to
learn. Using strategies designed for structured
learning, with repetition, familiarity and support,
people living with dementia can and do learn new
strategies to adapt to the changes in their abilities.
