Being supported to find new ways of contributing to
family life and the community is essential to
maintaining meaning. One strategy to assist meaning
in a supported care environment is to ensure that
everybody who lives there has an important and
contributory role to the running of the facility. This
should be done collaboratively by getting to know
personal histories from the person themselves, as
well as family and friends who can sometimes offer
valuable information about skills people can
contribute or hobbies / activities that have been
enjoyed which can continue to be incorporated into
the individuals daily life.

This would need to be individually planned
depending on a person’s ability, but can include:

? Running or participating in resident / client
       monthly planning meetings

? Planning or preparing meals / snacks
? assisting to sort and deliver the mail daily
? setting the table before meals
   ? clearing away afterwards
   ? folding clean laundry
? assisting to hand out meals or morning

       /afternoon tea
